But his lip curls to show his teeth, if only a little, and there is something self-contained and fierce about his expression.

And he is no longer paying attention only with his eyes, or his ears. Though the tiny fairground near the rear of the festivities is reasonably distracting.
He shakes his head once, refocusing, though the skin on his neck and face is tight with irritation.
